Two days ago, I was sitting on the train, staring out of the window and daydreaming. I do this quite a lot. I can't remember exactly what I was daydreaming about but my thoughts were suddenly interrupted by an idea.
"Why don't you have a Black Friday sale?"
I honestly can't say why I've never had this idea before. I immediately took out my phone and started making a to-do list of all the things I needed to put in place to pull off a last minute Black Friday sale. The list was quite short, which brings me to the point of this post.
For me, one of the biggest advantages of running a small business is the ability to implement changes at lightning speed.
Writing the aforementioned to-do list took about 5 minutes. Setting up the Black Friday sales page took about 1 hour. And creating various social media posts took about 45 minutes. So, altogether it took just under 2 hours to get ready for a major sales event.
In contrast, I also work with a multinational technology company who have been preparing for Black Friday for the past for weeks, with many headaches, sleepless nights, and caffeine rushes experienced by all involved. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking them, it's just the nature of a major project with so many moving parts in a large organisation.
So if you, as a small or micro business owner, ever feel inadequate compared to your larger competitors... DON'T! You're awesome and capable of awesome things at lightning speed! Think of it as a superpower.
I'll now leave you with a relevant film quote from one of my favourite films starring two of my favourite actors. Tweet me if you recognise it.
Actor 1: In guerrilla warfare they taught us to use our weaknesses as strengths.
